📄 Description (English)

Realtek AP-Router SDK Buffer Overflow Vulnerability — Realtek AP-Router SDK HTTP web server boa contains a buffer overflow vulnerability due to unsafe copies of some overly long parameters submitted in the form that lead to denial-of-service (DoS).

🤖 AI Executive Summary

A critical buffer overflow vulnerability (CVSS 9.0) exists in Realtek AP-Router SDK's HTTP web server (boa) that allows remote attackers to cause denial-of-service through malformed HTTP requests with oversized form parameters. With public exploits available, this poses immediate risk to all organizations using Realtek-based networking equipment. Patching is urgent given the high severity and active exploit availability.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
Saudi telecommunications operators (STC, Mobily, Zain) and ISPs using Realtek-based routers and access points face immediate DoS risk affecting network availability. Government agencies and critical infrastructure operators relying on Realtek networking equipment could experience service disruptions. Banking sector's network infrastructure may be impacted if Realtek devices are deployed in branch networks or data centers. Healthcare facilities using Realtek-based networking for medical systems could face operational disruptions. ARAMCO and energy sector SCADA networks may be vulnerable if Realtek equipment is present in network perimeters.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all Realtek AP-Router SDK deployments across your network infrastructure
2. Isolate or restrict external access to affected devices until patching is complete
3. Implement network segmentation to limit exposure of vulnerable devices
4. Monitor for suspicious HTTP requests with oversized form parameters

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Apply Realtek security patches immediately to all affected devices
2. Verify firmware versions against Realtek's official security advisory
3. Test patches in non-production environment before deployment
4. Maintain backup configurations before applying patches

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if patching delayed):
1. Deploy WAF rules to block HTTP requests with excessively large form parameters
2. Implement rate limiting on HTTP endpoints
3. Restrict administrative access to device web interfaces via IP whitelisting
4. Disable HTTP web interface if not required; use SSH/CLI only

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor for HTTP POST/GET requests with Content-Length > 8KB to router web interfaces
2. Alert on HTTP 500/502 errors from router devices indicating crashes
3. Track device reboots correlating with suspicious HTTP traffic patterns
4. Log all access attempts to /cgi-bin/ endpoints with oversized parameters
