📄 Description (English)

Free IP Switcher 3.1 contains a buffer overflow vulnerability that allows local attackers to crash the application by supplying an excessively long string in the Computer Name field. Attackers can paste a malicious payload into the Computer Name input field and click Activate to trigger a denial of service condition that crashes the application.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2018-25230 is a local buffer overflow vulnerability in Free IP Switcher 3.1 that allows attackers to crash the application through a malicious Computer Name field input. While the CVSS score is moderate (5.5), the vulnerability requires local access and has no available patch. The lack of exploit availability and patch status suggests limited immediate threat, but organizations using this tool should consider alternatives or implement compensating controls.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
Impact is limited to organizations using Free IP Switcher 3.1 for network configuration management. Most at risk are: IT departments in government agencies (NCA, ARAMCO, STC) that may use this tool for network administration; small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in telecommunications and energy sectors; and educational institutions. The vulnerability requires local access, significantly reducing risk in well-segmented enterprise environments. Saudi financial institutions (SAMA-regulated banks) are unlikely to use this consumer-grade tool.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
Immediate Actions:
1. Audit all systems running Free IP Switcher 3.1 and document inventory
2. Restrict local access to systems running this tool through physical security and access controls
3. Disable or uninstall Free IP Switcher 3.1 if not critical to operations
4. Evaluate alternative IP management tools with active security support

Compensating Controls:
1. Implement application whitelisting to prevent unauthorized execution
2. Monitor process execution logs for Free IP Switcher crashes or abnormal termination
3. Restrict user permissions to prevent malicious input injection
4. Use network segmentation to isolate systems running this tool
5. Implement endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions to detect local exploitation attempts

Detection Rules:
1. Monitor for Free IP Switcher process crashes or unexpected terminations
2. Alert on attempts to input strings exceeding 256 characters in application fields
3. Track file system access patterns around application directories
4. Log all local user activities on systems running the tool

Free IP Switcher
