📄 Description (English)

jetCast Server 2.0 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows local attackers to crash the application by supplying an excessively long string in the Log directory configuration field. Attackers can paste a buffer of 5000 characters into the Log directory input, then click Start to trigger a crash that terminates the server process.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2019-25593 is a local denial of service vulnerability in jetCast Server 2.0 that allows attackers to crash the application through buffer overflow in the Log directory configuration field. The vulnerability requires local access and can be exploited by inputting an excessively long string (5000+ characters), causing immediate server termination. With no available patch and no public exploit, the risk is moderate but requires immediate mitigation for organizations using this legacy software.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
This vulnerability primarily affects Saudi media and broadcasting organizations that may be using jetCast Server 2.0 for streaming operations. The impact is limited to local denial of service, affecting service availability rather than data confidentiality or integrity. Government media entities (ARAMCO media divisions, Saudi Broadcasting Authority), private media companies, and educational institutions with streaming infrastructure are at moderate risk. The requirement for local access significantly reduces the threat surface in typical enterprise environments.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
Immediate Actions:
1. Identify all systems running jetCast Server 2.0 in your environment
2. Restrict local access to the application configuration interface through OS-level access controls
3. Implement principle of least privilege for user accounts with access to jetCast Server configuration
4. Monitor for unexpected server crashes or restarts

Compensating Controls:
1. Disable or restrict access to the Log directory configuration field if possible
2. Implement input validation at the OS level to limit string length in configuration files
3. Use application whitelisting to prevent unauthorized modifications
4. Deploy process monitoring to automatically restart jetCast Server on crash
5. Maintain regular backups of configuration files

Long-term Remediation:
1. Evaluate migration to a supported, patched version of jetCast or alternative streaming software
2. If upgrade is not possible, consider containerizing the application with resource limits
3. Implement network segmentation to isolate legacy systems

Detection Rules:
1. Monitor for jetCast Server process crashes or unexpected terminations
2. Log all configuration file modifications with focus on Log directory field changes
3. Alert on any input exceeding 1000 characters in configuration interfaces
