📄 Description (English)

Deep Instinct Windows Agent 1.2.29.0 contains an unquoted service path vulnerability in the DeepMgmtService that allows local users to potentially execute code with elevated privileges. Attackers can exploit the unquoted path in C:\Program Files\HP Sure Sense\DeepMgmtService.exe to inject malicious code that would execute with LocalSystem permissions during service startup.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2020-37047 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Deep Instinct Windows Agent 1.2.29.0 affecting the DeepMgmtService through an unquoted service path. Attackers with local access can inject malicious executables to achieve code execution with LocalSystem privileges. While no public exploit is available, the vulnerability poses significant risk to organizations using this endpoint protection solution, particularly in Saudi banking and government sectors where Deep Instinct may be deployed.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
This vulnerability primarily impacts Saudi organizations in Banking (SAMA-regulated institutions), Government agencies (NCA oversight), and Healthcare sectors that deploy Deep Instinct endpoint protection. The unquoted service path vulnerability is particularly dangerous in environments with shared workstations or where local user access controls are not strictly enforced. Organizations using Deep Instinct as part of their endpoint detection and response (EDR) strategy face risk of privilege escalation by insider threats or compromised local accounts, potentially bypassing security controls.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
1. IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
- Identify all systems running Deep Instinct Windows Agent 1.2.29.0 using asset inventory tools
- Restrict local user access and enforce principle of least privilege on affected systems
- Monitor for suspicious service startup activities and file creation in Program Files directories

2. PATCHING GUIDANCE:
- Upgrade Deep Instinct Windows Agent to version 1.2.30.0 or later immediately
- Prioritize patching on systems with administrative users or shared access
- Test patches in non-production environment before enterprise deployment

3. COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if immediate patching not possible):
- Implement file integrity monitoring on C:\Program Files\HP Sure Sense\ directory
- Restrict write permissions to Program Files directory to administrators only
- Disable unnecessary local user accounts and enforce strong password policies
- Deploy application whitelisting to prevent unauthorized executable execution

4. DETECTION RULES:
- Monitor Windows Event Logs for DeepMgmtService startup failures or unexpected restarts
- Alert on file creation/modification in C:\Program Files\HP Sure Sense\ with suspicious names
- Track process execution with LocalSystem privileges originating from Program Files
- Monitor registry changes to service configuration paths
Program Files

C:\Program Files\HP Sure Sense\

Program Files
