📄 Description (English)

DiskBoss Service 12.2.18 contains an unquoted service path vulnerability in its binary path configuration that allows local attackers to execute code with elevated privileges. Attackers can exploit the unquoted path by placing malicious executables in potential path locations to gain system-level access during service startup.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2021-47822 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in DiskBoss Service 12.2.18 exploiting unquoted service paths, allowing local attackers to execute arbitrary code with system privileges. While no public exploit exists, the vulnerability is trivial to exploit and poses significant risk to organizations using this disk management software. Immediate patching is critical as the vulnerability requires only local access and provides complete system compromise.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all systems running DiskBoss Service 12.2.18 across your infrastructure
2. Restrict local access to systems running vulnerable versions through access controls
3. Monitor service startup logs for suspicious executable creation in system paths

PATCHING:
1. Upgrade DiskBoss Service to version 12.2.19 or later immediately
2. Verify patch installation by checking service binary path configuration
3. Restart DiskBoss Service after patching

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if immediate patching not possible):
1. Implement strict file system permissions on system directories (C:\Program Files, C:\Windows\System32)
2. Disable DiskBoss Service if not actively required
3. Run DiskBoss with minimal required privileges
4. Implement application whitelisting to prevent unauthorized executable execution

DETECTION:
1. Monitor for suspicious .exe files in system PATH directories
2. Alert on DiskBoss Service startup failures or unexpected process spawning
3. Audit service configuration changes using Windows Event Viewer (Event ID 7045)
4. Search for unquoted paths in registry: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DiskBoss

Windows
