📄 Description (English)

The Ultimate Member – User Profile, Registration, Login, Member Directory, Content Restriction & Membership Plugin plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the user description field in all versions up to, and including, 2.11.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The vulnerability is only exploitable when "HTML support for user description" is enabled in Ultimate Member settings.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

The Ultimate Member WordPress plugin (versions ≤2.11.1) contains a Stored XSS vulnerability in the user description field when HTML support is enabled. Authenticated subscribers can inject malicious scripts that execute for all users viewing affected profiles. While requiring authentication and specific configuration, this poses a significant risk to WordPress-based platforms commonly used by Saudi organizations for content management and community engagement.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Audit all Ultimate Member installations across your WordPress infrastructure
2. Check if 'HTML support for user description' is enabled in plugin settings
3. Review user descriptions for suspicious JavaScript or HTML content
4. Restrict subscriber-level permissions if not operationally critical

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Monitor Ultimate Member GitHub/official channels for security patches (no patch currently available)
2. When patch releases, immediately test in staging environment before production deployment
3. Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect XSS patterns in user descriptions

COMPENSATING CONTROLS:
1. Disable 'HTML support for user description' if not required for business operations
2. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline script execution
3. Use WordPress security plugins (Wordfence, Sucuri) with XSS detection capabilities
4. Enable WordPress user role restrictions to limit subscriber capabilities
5. Implement input validation at database level using prepared statements

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor wp_usermeta table for suspicious script tags in user descriptions
2. Log all user description modifications and review for anomalies
3. Implement WAF rules: Alert on <script>, javascript:, onerror=, onload= in user-submitted content
4. Monitor HTTP responses for unexpected JavaScript execution in user profile pages
