📄 Description (English)

On TP-Link Tapo C260 v1, path traversal is possible due to improper handling of specific GET request paths via https, allowing local unauthenticated probing of filesystem paths. An attacker on the local network can determine whether certain files exists on the device, with no read, write or code execution possibilities.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-0651 is a path traversal vulnerability in TP-Link Tapo C260 v1 cameras that allows local network attackers to probe filesystem paths without authentication. While limited to information disclosure (file existence detection) with no read/write/execution capabilities, this vulnerability poses a reconnaissance risk for targeted attacks on networked surveillance infrastructure. The CVSS 7.8 rating reflects the local network requirement but significant impact on confidentiality.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
Saudi organizations using TP-Link Tapo C260 cameras in critical infrastructure face reconnaissance risks. Primary impact sectors: Government facilities (NCA, Ministry of Interior security systems), Banking sector (SAMA-regulated institutions using IP cameras), Healthcare facilities (MOH hospitals), Energy sector (ARAMCO facilities), and Telecom providers (STC, Mobily). The vulnerability enables attackers on the same network segment to map device filesystem structure, potentially identifying system versions, configurations, and other devices for follow-up attacks. Most critical for organizations with segmented networks where cameras may be on accessible subnets.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all TP-Link Tapo C260 v1 devices in your network using network scanning tools (nmap, Shodan queries for Saudi IP ranges)
2. Isolate affected cameras to dedicated VLAN with strict access controls
3. Implement network segmentation: restrict camera subnet access to authorized management stations only
4. Deploy firewall rules blocking unauthorized HTTPS GET requests to camera management interfaces

PATCHING:
1. Check TP-Link support portal for firmware updates addressing CVE-2026-0651
2. Apply patches immediately upon availability to all affected devices
3. Maintain firmware version inventory in asset management system

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if patch unavailable):
1. Implement network access controls (NAC) to restrict device connectivity
2. Deploy IDS/IPS rules to detect path traversal patterns (../ sequences in HTTP requests)
3. Monitor HTTPS traffic to cameras for suspicious GET request patterns
4. Implement API gateway/proxy with request validation before camera access
5. Disable remote management features; use local management only

DETECTION:
1. Monitor for HTTP 200 responses to GET requests containing path traversal sequences
2. Alert on repeated 404 responses indicating filesystem probing
3. Log all HTTPS connections to camera management ports (443)
4. Search logs for patterns: GET requests with ../, %2e%2e, or encoded path traversal attempts
