📄 Description (English)

A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. The ldap_utf8prev() function reads bytes before the start of a buffer without bounds checking, causing a heap buffer over-read in string filter parsing that may influence internal filter processing behavior.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-11787 is a heap buffer over-read vulnerability in 389 Directory Server's ldap_utf8prev() function affecting LDAP string filter parsing. While currently unpatched with no known exploits, this vulnerability could allow attackers to read sensitive data from memory or cause denial of service by manipulating LDAP filter inputs. Organizations using 389 Directory Server for authentication and directory services should implement immediate compensating controls.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
Immediate Actions:
1. Inventory all 389 Directory Server instances across your infrastructure
2. Restrict LDAP filter input validation at the application layer to reject malformed UTF-8 sequences
3. Implement network segmentation to limit LDAP server exposure to trusted networks only
4. Enable comprehensive LDAP query logging and monitoring for suspicious filter patterns

Compensating Controls:
5. Deploy Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect and block LDAP injection attempts
6. Implement input validation that sanitizes LDAP filter strings before processing
7. Monitor heap memory access patterns for anomalies using endpoint detection tools
8. Establish rate limiting on LDAP queries to prevent exploitation attempts

Detection Rules:
9. Alert on LDAP queries containing null bytes or invalid UTF-8 sequences
10. Monitor for repeated failed LDAP filter parsing attempts
11. Track memory access violations in 389 Directory Server processes
12. Watch for unusual LDAP filter complexity or length anomalies

Patching:
13. Subscribe to 389 Directory Server security advisories for patch availability
14. Prepare patch testing environment immediately upon patch release
15. Plan emergency patching window with change management approval

389 Directory Server

389 Directory Server
