📄 Description (English)

An OS command injection
vulnerability exists in XWEB Pro version 1.12.1 and prior, enabling an
authenticated attacker to achieve remote code execution on the system by
providing malicious input via the device hostname configuration which
is later processed during system setup, resulting in remote code
execution.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-20764 is a high-severity OS command injection vulnerability in XWEB Pro v1.12.1 and earlier that allows authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary commands on affected systems through malicious hostname configuration inputs. With a CVSS score of 8.0 and no public exploit currently available, this vulnerability poses significant risk to organizations using XWEB Pro for device management. Immediate patching is strongly recommended as the vulnerability requires only authentication, not elevated privileges.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
This vulnerability primarily impacts Saudi organizations using XWEB Pro for infrastructure management, particularly in: (1) Banking and Financial Services (SAMA-regulated entities) managing network devices and security appliances; (2) Government agencies (NCA oversight) using XWEB Pro for critical infrastructure; (3) Telecommunications providers (STC, Mobily) managing network equipment; (4) Energy sector (ARAMCO, SEC) utilizing XWEB Pro in operational technology environments; (5) Healthcare institutions managing medical device networks. The authenticated nature of the attack reduces immediate risk but poses significant insider threat concerns, especially in environments with shared administrative credentials or compromised user accounts.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all XWEB Pro installations in your environment and document versions
2. Restrict administrative access to XWEB Pro interfaces using network segmentation and access controls
3. Implement multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all XWEB Pro administrative accounts
4. Monitor and log all hostname configuration changes in XWEB Pro

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Apply the latest security patch for XWEB Pro immediately (upgrade to version > 1.12.1)
2. Test patches in non-production environments first
3. Prioritize patching for systems in critical infrastructure and financial services
4. Maintain patch deployment records for compliance audits

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if patching delayed):
1. Implement input validation and sanitization at the application level
2. Use Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to block command injection patterns in hostname fields
3. Disable hostname configuration functionality if not required
4. Implement strict hostname format validation (alphanumeric, hyphens, dots only)

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor for suspicious characters in hostname configuration logs: $, `, |, ;, &, >, <, (, )
2. Alert on hostname changes containing shell metacharacters or command separators
3. Track failed hostname configuration attempts followed by successful changes
4. Monitor process execution spawned from XWEB Pro service for anomalous commands
5. Implement SIEM rules to detect command injection patterns: $(command), `command`, command1;command2
XWEB Pro
