📄 Description (English)

SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP and ABAP Platform allows an authenticated attacker with normal privileges to obtain a valid signed message and send modified signed XML documents to the verifier. This may result in acceptance of tampered identity information, unauthorized access to sensitive user data and potential disruption of normal system usage.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-23687 is a critical XML signature validation vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver Application Server affecting versions 700-754. An authenticated attacker can forge signed XML documents by exploiting improper cryptographic signature verification (CWE-347), potentially gaining unauthorized access to sensitive data and compromising system integrity. This vulnerability poses significant risk to Saudi organizations relying on SAP systems for critical business operations.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all SAP NetWeaver instances running affected versions (700-754) in your environment
2. Restrict network access to SAP systems to authorized users only; implement network segmentation
3. Enable enhanced logging and monitoring of XML signature validation processes
4. Review recent access logs for suspicious authentication patterns or XML document modifications

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Apply SAP security patches immediately for all affected Basis versions
2. Prioritize production systems and those handling financial/identity data
3. Test patches in non-production environments before deployment
4. Coordinate with SAP support for version-specific patch availability

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if patching delayed):
1. Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect malformed XML signatures
2. Deploy XML signature validation at application layer with strict certificate pinning
3. Enforce multi-factor authentication for all SAP system access
4. Implement cryptographic verification of all XML documents using external validation services

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor for XML documents with invalid or mismatched digital signatures
2. Alert on authentication attempts using modified identity claims
3. Track changes to user privileges or role assignments via XML-based mechanisms
4. Log all signature verification failures and review for patterns
