📄 Description (English)

A vulnerability has been identified in Simcenter Femap (All versions < V2512), Simcenter Nastran (All versions < V2512). The affected applications contains an out of bounds read vulnerability while parsing specially crafted XDB files. This could allow an attacker to execute code in the context of the current process.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

A critical out-of-bounds read vulnerability (CVE-2026-23716) affects Siemens Simcenter Femap and Nastran versions prior to V2512, allowing remote code execution through malicious XDB files. With a CVSS score of 7.8 and no public exploit currently available, this poses significant risk to Saudi engineering and manufacturing sectors relying on these CAD/simulation tools. Immediate patching to version V2512 or later is strongly recommended.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
This vulnerability primarily impacts Saudi Arabia's critical sectors: (1) Energy/Petrochemical - ARAMCO and downstream companies using Simcenter for reservoir simulation and equipment design; (2) Manufacturing - automotive, aerospace, and heavy equipment manufacturers relying on Femap/Nastran for structural analysis; (3) Engineering Consultancies - firms supporting NEOM, Vision 2030 infrastructure projects, and industrial development; (4) Government Research Institutions - KACST and defense-related engineering facilities. The out-of-bounds read could lead to information disclosure or code execution, potentially compromising proprietary designs, operational technology systems, and sensitive engineering data.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all systems running Simcenter Femap or Nastran versions < V2512 across your organization
2. Restrict file sharing and email attachments containing .XDB files until patching is complete
3. Implement network segmentation to isolate CAD/simulation workstations from critical systems

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Download and deploy Siemens Simcenter Femap V2512 or later from official Siemens channels
2. Download and deploy Siemens Simcenter Nastran V2512 or later
3. Test patches in non-production environments first, particularly for ARAMCO and manufacturing facilities
4. Prioritize patching for systems handling external or untrusted XDB files

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if immediate patching not possible):
1. Disable XDB file parsing if not essential to operations
2. Implement strict file validation - scan all XDB files with updated antivirus before opening
3. Run Simcenter applications in sandboxed environments or virtual machines
4. Restrict user privileges - run applications with least-privilege accounts
5. Monitor file access logs for suspicious XDB file handling

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor for unexpected process crashes in Femap/Nastran with memory access violations
2. Alert on XDB file access from untrusted sources or email attachments
3. Track unusual network connections initiated by Simcenter processes
4. Log all XDB file modifications and access attempts
5. Monitor for privilege escalation attempts following Simcenter process execution

Simcenter
Simcenter
