📄 Description (English)

The Smart Post Show – Post Grid, Post Carousel & Slider, and List Category Posts plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.12 via deserialization of untrusted input in the import_shortcodes() function. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Administrator-level access and above, to inject a PHP Object. No known POP chain is present in the vulnerable software, which means this vulnerability has no impact unless another plugin or theme containing a POP chain is installed on the site. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, it may allow the attacker to perform actions like delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code depending on the POP chain present.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-3017 is a PHP Object Injection vulnerability in the Smart Post Show WordPress plugin affecting versions up to 3.0.12. The vulnerability requires authenticated administrator access and depends on the presence of a POP chain in other plugins/themes to achieve impact. While currently no known POP chains exist in the vulnerable software itself, the presence of this gadget chain vector poses a significant risk in WordPress environments with multiple plugins, particularly in Saudi organizations running complex WordPress deployments.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
Immediate Actions:
1. Audit all WordPress installations using Smart Post Show plugin versions up to 3.0.12
2. Identify and document all installed plugins and themes that may contain POP chains
3. Restrict administrator account access to trusted personnel only
4. Enable WordPress security logging and monitor for suspicious import_shortcodes() function calls

Patching Guidance:
1. Update Smart Post Show plugin to version 3.0.13 or later when available
2. Until patch is available, disable the plugin if not actively used
3. If plugin is required, implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to block suspicious serialized object patterns

Compensating Controls:
1. Implement strict WordPress user role management - limit administrator accounts to essential personnel
2. Deploy WordPress security plugins with object injection detection capabilities
3. Use WordPress security hardening: disable file editing, implement file integrity monitoring
4. Monitor WordPress database for suspicious serialized data patterns
5. Implement network segmentation for WordPress administrative interfaces
6. Enable two-factor authentication for all administrator accounts

Detection Rules:
1. Monitor for base64-encoded serialized PHP objects in POST requests to wp-admin
2. Alert on import_shortcodes() function execution with suspicious parameters
3. Track changes to WordPress options table containing serialized data
4. Monitor for unusual file operations following administrator login
