📄 Description (English)

Vulnerability in the MySQL Server product of Oracle MySQL (component: Server: Optimizer). Supported versions that are affected are 8.0.0-8.0.45, 8.4.0-8.4.8 and 9.0.0-9.6.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Server. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.5 (Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).

🤖 AI Executive Summary

A medium-severity vulnerability in Oracle MySQL Server's Optimizer component (CVE-2026-34303) allows low-privileged network attackers to cause denial-of-service through server crashes or hangs. Affecting MySQL versions 8.0.0-8.0.45, 8.4.0-8.4.8, and 9.0.0-9.6.0, this vulnerability requires authentication but poses significant availability risks to database-dependent systems. No patch is currently available, requiring immediate compensating controls and monitoring strategies.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
Saudi organizations heavily dependent on MySQL databases face significant availability risks, particularly in: Banking sector (SAMA-regulated institutions using MySQL for transaction processing), Government agencies (NCA-supervised systems), Healthcare providers (MOH facilities), Telecommunications (STC, Mobily infrastructure), and Energy sector (ARAMCO operations). The requirement for low-privilege authentication means internal threats and compromised application accounts pose immediate risks. Organizations running affected versions in production environments face potential service disruptions affecting critical operations and regulatory compliance.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
Immediate Actions:
1. Inventory all MySQL Server instances running versions 8.0.0-8.0.45, 8.4.0-8.4.8, or 9.0.0-9.6.0
2. Restrict database user privileges to minimum required levels; audit and remove unnecessary user accounts
3. Implement network segmentation to limit database access to authorized application servers only
4. Enable comprehensive query logging and monitoring for suspicious patterns

Compensating Controls (until patch available):
5. Deploy database activity monitoring (DAM) solutions to detect anomalous query patterns
6. Implement connection rate limiting and query timeout configurations
7. Configure automated failover and high-availability clustering to minimize downtime impact
8. Establish database backup and recovery procedures with regular testing

Detection Rules:
9. Monitor for repeated connection attempts from low-privilege accounts
10. Alert on queries causing excessive CPU/memory consumption or server hangs
11. Track failed query executions and optimizer-related errors in MySQL error logs
12. Monitor for unusual query patterns targeting optimizer components

Patching Strategy:
13. Subscribe to Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) for patch availability
14. Prepare upgrade path to patched versions when available (test in non-production first)
15. Document all workarounds and compensating controls for audit purposes
