📄 Description (English)

An improper sanitization vulnerability exists in the BIG-IP QKView utility that allows a low-privileged attacker to read sensitive information from a QKView file.

Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-41219 is a medium-severity information disclosure vulnerability in F5 BIG-IP's QKView diagnostic utility that allows low-privileged attackers to extract sensitive data from QKView files due to improper sanitization. While no public exploit exists and patches are unavailable, the vulnerability poses a significant risk to organizations relying on BIG-IP for load balancing and security services. Immediate compensating controls and access restrictions are critical until patches become available.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
Saudi organizations in banking (SAMA-regulated institutions), government (NCA infrastructure), telecommunications (STC, Mobily), and energy sectors (ARAMCO, SEC) heavily rely on F5 BIG-IP for load balancing and DDoS protection. QKView files often contain configuration data, SSL certificates, authentication credentials, and system logs. Unauthorized access could expose sensitive information used in critical infrastructure. Government entities and financial institutions face the highest risk due to regulatory compliance requirements and sensitive operational data stored in diagnostic files.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
Immediate Actions:
1. Restrict QKView file access to authorized administrators only using filesystem permissions (chmod 600 or equivalent)
2. Implement role-based access control (RBAC) to limit QKView generation and retrieval to essential personnel
3. Disable QKView generation if not actively used for diagnostics
4. Audit existing QKView files for unauthorized access attempts in audit logs
5. Implement network segmentation to restrict access to BIG-IP management interfaces

Detection & Monitoring:
6. Monitor for QKView file access patterns using SIEM (check /var/log/ltm, /var/log/audit)
7. Alert on QKView downloads by non-administrative accounts
8. Review BIG-IP access logs for suspicious diagnostic utility usage

Compensating Controls:
9. Encrypt QKView files at rest using full-disk encryption
10. Implement secure file transfer protocols (SFTP/SCP) for QKView transmission
11. Maintain air-gapped backup systems for sensitive QKView archives
12. Conduct quarterly reviews of QKView file contents for exposed credentials

Patching Strategy:
13. Subscribe to F5 security advisories for patch availability
14. Plan immediate patching upon release in test environment first
15. Document all QKView files generated and their retention policies
