📄 Description (English)

PJSIP is a free and open source multimedia communication library written in C. In 2.16 and earlier, there is an integer overflow in media stream buffer size calculation when processing SDP with asymmetric ptime configuration. The overflow may result in an undersized buffer allocation, which can lead to unexpected application termination or memory corruption This vulnerability is fixed in 2.17.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

CVE-2026-41416 is a high-severity integer overflow vulnerability in PJSIP 2.16 and earlier affecting media stream buffer size calculation during SDP processing with asymmetric ptime configurations. The vulnerability can result in undersized buffer allocation leading to application crashes or memory corruption. This poses significant risk to VoIP and unified communications infrastructure widely deployed across Saudi organizations.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
This vulnerability directly impacts Saudi telecommunications infrastructure, particularly STC and other telecom operators utilizing PJSIP for VoIP services. Banking sector organizations using PJSIP-based communication systems face service disruption and potential data integrity risks. Government agencies and healthcare institutions relying on unified communications platforms are at risk of denial of service. Energy sector (ARAMCO) communication systems may be affected if PJSIP is deployed in their infrastructure. The vulnerability enables remote attackers to crash services or potentially execute arbitrary code through crafted SDP messages.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
1. IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
- Identify all systems running PJSIP versions 2.16 and earlier using network scanning and asset inventory tools
- Isolate or restrict network access to affected PJSIP instances if immediate patching is not possible
- Monitor for abnormal SDP traffic patterns and application crashes

2. PATCHING GUIDANCE:
- Upgrade PJSIP to version 2.17 or later immediately
- Test patches in non-production environments first to ensure compatibility with existing VoIP configurations
- Coordinate with telecom and unified communications teams for scheduled maintenance windows

3. COMPENSATING CONTROLS:
- Implement SDP message validation and filtering at network perimeter
- Deploy intrusion detection signatures to detect malformed SDP with asymmetric ptime values
- Restrict SDP message sources to trusted endpoints only
- Enable application-level logging and monitoring for unexpected terminations

4. DETECTION RULES:
- Monitor for SDP messages with mismatched ptime values in offer/answer
- Alert on PJSIP application crashes correlated with SDP processing
- Track buffer allocation failures in media stream initialization
- Monitor for repeated connection attempts with crafted SDP payloads
