📄 Description (English)

Grav is a file-based Web platform. Prior to 2.0.0-beta.2, a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in getgrav/grav allows publisher-level accounts to execute arbitrary JavaScript. The issue arises from a blacklist bypass in the detectXss() function when handling unquoted HTML event attributes. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.0.0-beta.2.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

A stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Grav CMS versions prior to 2.0.0-beta.2 allows publisher-level accounts to execute arbitrary JavaScript through a blacklist bypass in the detectXss() function. With a CVSS score of 8.5 and publicly available exploits, this poses a significant risk to organizations using Grav for content management. Immediate patching to version 2.0.0-beta.2 or later is critical to prevent account compromise and data theft.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all Grav installations in your environment and document their versions
2. Restrict publisher account access to trusted personnel only
3. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate XSS impact
4. Enable security logging for all content modifications

PATCHING:
1. Upgrade Grav to version 2.0.0-beta.2 or later immediately
2. For installations unable to upgrade immediately, apply the detectXss() function patch from the official Grav repository
3. Test patches in staging environment before production deployment

COMPENSATING CONTROLS:
1. Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect and block XSS payloads in unquoted HTML attributes
2. Use input validation to reject content containing event attributes (onclick, onload, onerror, etc.)
3. Enforce output encoding for all user-generated content
4. Implement strict RBAC limiting publisher permissions

DETECTION:
1. Monitor for suspicious JavaScript in page content using SIEM rules
2. Alert on modifications to core Grav files or detectXss() function
3. Track publisher account activities and content changes
4. Search logs for patterns: 'on[a-z]*=' in unquoted attributes
