📄 Description (English)

Improper neutralization of CRLF sequences ('CRLF injection') vulnerability in TUBITAK BILGEM Software Technologies Research Institute Pardus allows Authentication Bypass.

This issue affects Pardus: from <=0.6.4 before 0.8.0.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

A CRLF injection vulnerability (CVE-2026-5140) in Pardus software versions ≤0.6.4 allows attackers to bypass authentication mechanisms through improper neutralization of carriage return and line feed sequences. With a CVSS score of 8.8, this high-severity vulnerability poses significant risk to organizations using affected Pardus versions. No patch is currently available, requiring immediate compensating controls and version upgrades to 0.8.0 or later.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
This vulnerability primarily impacts Saudi government entities and critical infrastructure operators using Pardus-based systems. High-risk sectors include: (1) Government agencies under NCA oversight relying on Pardus for authentication systems; (2) Critical infrastructure operators (energy, water, telecommunications) using Pardus in operational technology environments; (3) Financial institutions and SAMA-regulated entities if Pardus is integrated into authentication workflows; (4) Healthcare organizations under MOH jurisdiction using Pardus for access control. Authentication bypass could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive systems, data exfiltration, and operational disruption.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Inventory all systems running Pardus versions ≤0.6.4 across your organization
2. Isolate or air-gap affected systems from production networks if possible
3. Implement network segmentation to restrict access to Pardus-based authentication services
4. Enable enhanced logging and monitoring on all Pardus instances

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Upgrade to Pardus version 0.8.0 or later immediately
2. If immediate upgrade is not feasible, contact TUBITAK BILGEM for interim security updates
3. Test patches in isolated environments before production deployment

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (if upgrade delayed):
1. Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect and block CRLF injection patterns (\r\n sequences in authentication headers)
2. Deploy reverse proxy with strict input validation on all authentication endpoints
3. Enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) as secondary authentication layer
4. Implement IP whitelisting for administrative access
5. Deploy intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) with CRLF injection signatures

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor for HTTP requests containing %0d%0a or \r\n in authentication parameters
2. Alert on authentication bypass attempts (successful logins without proper credentials)
3. Track unusual authentication header modifications
4. Monitor for session hijacking indicators post-authentication
5. Log all authentication failures and anomalies for forensic analysis
Pardus
Pardus
