📄 Description (English)

A flaw has been found in TOTOLINK A7000R up to 9.1.0u.6115. The affected element is the function setWiFiEasyGuestCfg of the file /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi. This manipulation of the argument ssid5g causes stack-based buffer overflow. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. The exploit has been published and may be used.

🤖 AI Executive Summary

A critical stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in TOTOLINK A7000R routers (up to firmware 9.1.0u.6115) affecting the WiFi guest configuration function. The vulnerability allows remote unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code by sending a malformed request with an oversized SSID parameter. With CVSS 8.8 and published exploit details, this poses immediate risk to organizations using these devices as network perimeter equipment.

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia Impact Assessment
Saudi organizations using TOTOLINK A7000R routers face critical risk, particularly: (1) Banking sector (SAMA-regulated institutions) — routers commonly deployed in branch networks and ATM connectivity; (2) Government agencies (NCA oversight) — used in ministry networks and critical infrastructure; (3) Telecom operators (STC, Mobily, Zain) — potential deployment in customer premises equipment and network infrastructure; (4) Healthcare facilities — used in hospital networks for guest WiFi; (5) Energy sector (ARAMCO, utilities) — potential use in facility networks. Remote code execution enables lateral movement into internal networks, data exfiltration, and persistent backdoor installation.

🔧 Remediation Steps (English)
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS:
1. Identify all TOTOLINK A7000R devices in your network using asset discovery tools and network scanning
2. Isolate affected routers from critical network segments if possible, or restrict access to administrative interfaces
3. Disable guest WiFi functionality (setWiFiEasyGuestCfg) until patching is available
4. Monitor for exploitation attempts targeting /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with oversized SSID parameters

PATCHING GUIDANCE:
1. Contact TOTOLINK support immediately for firmware updates beyond 9.1.0u.6115
2. Check manufacturer website regularly for security patches
3. Implement a firmware update schedule once patches are released

COMPENSATING CONTROLS (until patch available):
1. Implement network-level access controls restricting access to router management interfaces (port 80/443) to authorized IPs only
2. Deploy WAF/IPS rules blocking requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with abnormally large SSID parameters (>32 bytes)
3. Segment guest WiFi networks from critical infrastructure using separate VLANs
4. Enable router logging and forward logs to SIEM for analysis
5. Consider replacing affected routers with alternative vendors if critical deployment

DETECTION RULES:
1. Monitor HTTP POST requests to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi with ssid5g parameter exceeding 128 bytes
2. Alert on any successful code execution indicators following requests to this endpoint
3. Track firmware version of all TOTOLINK devices; alert on versions ≤9.1.0u.6115
4. Monitor for unexpected process execution or network connections originating from router IP addresses
